Flying in the face of fear with Misao McGregor

In 2022, Misao’s play Shitting Bricks was a crowd favorite. This dark, timely piece about siblings facing the dreaded high school reunion is making its return to the CP stage. We’re so psyched to welcome both the script and the writer back into our orbit! And of course, we had to sit down and ask some serious Q’s.

Cherry Picking turns 25 this year - which means it’s due for a quarter-life crisis. What advice would you give to your past or future 25 year old self, or to Cherry Picking right now?

Advice for Cherry Picking: don't turn 25 in the middle of a global pandemic! It only adds to the existential dread! That said, 25-year-old Misao made some great moves to step into their authentic self at that age. And they adopted a kitten. So maybe... adopt an animal of your choosing and don't be afraid to make your home everything you want it to be. 

It’s our Silver Anniversary this year – if you had your own metal band what would you call it?

I'm gonna go with CHASING PIGEONS because it sounds punk and like an idiotic thing to do. 

Tell us about the last time you tried something brand new?

I'm currently trying this super fun thing called my Saturn return. So far, it's been a doozy but will let you know how things work out!

What is your CP core memory?

Collaborating with CP on the gender identity of Chase in SHITTING BRICKS which has since gone on to inspire its expansion into a super queer, drag-filled full length play with music :)

Cancer season, swimming, my wife, air conditioning, summer magic, and lemon pasta & arugula salad.
