Flying in the face of fear with John P. Loonam
Loonam! Loonam! Loonam! John’s been a picker since the earrrrrly days of cherries gone by. We love the annual email from an actor squealing, “I get to be in a Loonam play?!!” We get it. His work is an actor and audience delight, year after year. Which is why we’re so glad to bring back a play from the vault for this year’s pick and to celebrate this ultimate picker.
Cherry Picking turns 25 this year - which means it’s due for a quarter-life crisis. What advice would you give to your past or future 25 year old self, or to Cherry Picking right now?
It's not time to make a change, just relax, take it easy. You're still young, that's your fault, there's so much you have to know. Find a girl, settle down. If you want you can marry. Look at me, I am old but I'm happy.
It’s our Silver Anniversary this year – if you had your own heavy metal band what would you call it?
What makes you think I don't have my own heavy metal band?
Tell us about the last time you tried something brand new?
I recently tried fly fishing for the first time. I was more a threat to the supply of fake flies than to the fish, but I had a great time.
What is your CP core memory?
Blanket Jackson.
Describe your summer 2025 using only emojis.
What's an emoji?
What’s keeping you going right now?
Trying to think of an answer to that question about cocktails.
