Flying in the face of fear with Aliza Ciara

Cherry Picking turns 25 this year - which means it’s due for a quarter-life crisis. What advice would you give to your past or future 25 year old self, or to Cherry Picking right now?
I actually share this birthday with Cherry Picking, as I also did turn 25 earlier this year - so this is very fitting. I think it’s so easy to begrudgingly drop another marble in an ever filling jar, with a sigh in a groan, with every year that passes. That impending, looming feeling of time running out to do the things that you wanted to. Reaching this quarter-life crises myself has given me a chance to step back. So, I just want to keep using moments like these to remind myself how young I am, really, in the grand scheme that is life, and not try to force or rush myself into whatever I thought “success” as an artist was supposed to be when I was 18 years old. The reality is: I’m already there, and I’m going from here and onward!
It’s our Silver Anniversary this year – if you had your own heavy metal band what would you call it?

Tell us about the last time you tried something brand new?
Shoutout to Mangrove Red! During their nights performing at Kalye, as they play through their current residency there, they have always invited me up to sing with them whenever I’m able to. I made a resolution earlier this year to sing live in a band, so this summer they’ve really come through and made that possible for me!
For previous pickers: What is your CP core memory?
Getting that first text message saying they were looking for, and wanted Filipino representation. It’s a moment I hold very specially in my heart, and I am so glad I was able to provide for my people!
If Cherry Picking were a cocktail (or mocktail), what would be in it?
Old Fashion! I am a whiskey girl, so given the usual I tend to go for it straight without any of the fuss on the rocks - - But for Cherry Picking this is my choice. Old Fashions are classic, but can be custom to taste, and room for experimentation. Of course, can’t forget the novelty a Luxardo Cherry!
