The In-Between with Robert “Robbie” Weinstein

What could be better than a Pick with Robert "Robbie" Weinstein on the page and onstage?! Any time we get with him is always a trip. While we would definitely consider flying with our resident philosopher carefully, we know it's going to be a fun ride...

Check out Robert’s visit to the blog:

What was your first CP year? How were you involved (audience, actor, writer, producer, front of house, tech)?

2005, as an audience member.  It was at Brite Bar, and I remember it being raucous like a rock concert.

How are you living - if at all - in a liminal space currently?

By breathing, catastrophizing, trying not to dwell on my mistakes, and focusing on people I love.

Describe a time when you had absolutely no idea what would happen next?

Many years ago, I was working at an accounting firm when, one morning, I was called into the managing partner’s office. I had only met him once before, at the office holiday party, where he introduced himself, shook my hand, handed me an envelope containing a $100 bill, and thanked me for my work.

His was a corner office on the 47th floor, with huge windows that offered a stunning view of the East River. He sat me down, offered me a drink (with alcohol or not, my choice), and then, in the kindest and most supportive way possible, fired me.

Through a combination of his approach and my own shock, I left his office smiling. There was no room for anger or fear. I later realized I could respond that way because I hated that job.

It was an instructive experience.

What’s worse: the moment after a sharp inhale or before a long sigh?

There’s a difference?

You’re stuck between two people in the middle seat on an airplane, buckled up for a long flight. Who are your ideal OR nightmare seatmates?

Ideal seatmates: casual smokers who sip whiskey sours and tell great stories.  (I miss smoking on planes.)

Ice cream sandwich or deli sandwich? (Be specific)

Peanut butter chocolate frozen yogurt between two nice-sized chocolate chip cookies. (I have a complicated relationship with ice cream.)

Do not miss Robbie on stage in Avri Klemer's, Swallow, and on the page with his newest play, The Red Thing, on Monday, July 13th.
