The In-Between with Johanna Pinzler
Johanna Pinzler joins us for her big 2-0! In twenty years, she's been a true force behind the Pick- not only onstage as an actor, but as a committee member, cheerleader, mentor and guide for new pickers, casting agent, and most importantly Prosecco popper. Johanna brings her whole self to Cherry Picking and we are so glad she's made this summer soiree part of her artistic home amidst so much liminal space.
What was your first CP year? How were you involved (audience, actor, writer, producer, front of house, tech)?
I’ve been a proud CP actor since 2006 (and served on the Reading Committee for 3 years I think) which makes this my 20th anniversary.
How are you living - if at all - in a liminal space currently?
I’m a professional Theater Director and an adjunct college professor so my entire professional life often feels like it is lived in liminal space. It can be a very frustrating and sometimes scary place to live, but one I have grown accustomed to. I’m also not entirely sure I know how to exist any other way anymore.
Describe a time when you had absolutely no idea what would happen next?
I’m living that reality right now in multiple ways both macro and micro in my own life and by being a person who exists in this city, country and planet.
What’s worse: the moment after a sharp inhale or before a long sigh?
Absolutely the moment after a sharp inhale. Even thinking about it makes me want to panic a little bit.
You’re stuck between two people in the middle seat on an airplane, buckled up for a long flight. Who are your ideal OR nightmare seatmates?
Ideal: 2 best friends who I never get enough time to talk to who make me laugh inappropriately and who I would be grateful to have the forced quality time. Nightmare: entitled, drunk Wall Street bros who would talk over me and/or at me and make me regret ever choosing to travel.
Ice cream sandwich or deli sandwich? (Be specific)
While I love a perfectly made corned beef on rye from 2nd Avenue Deli I actually have to say that my sweet tooth does love an ice cream sandwich….. both a homemade one (coffee ice cream on a double chocolate chip cookie) or a traditional-wrapped-in-blue-paper vanilla ice cream with chocolate sandwich that is always a little melty, so you have to eat it fast, from the ice cream truck.
Do not miss Johanna on stage on Tuesday, July 14 only at the Wild Project!
